PQ Corp Selects Certis USA
to Sell Sil-MATRIX

Certis USA has signed a marketing agreement with PQ Corporation of Valley Forge, PA. Certis USA is awarded the right to reintroduce and distribute PQ Corporation's Sil-MATRIX® fungicide/miticide/insecticide to the U.S. agricultural market. The addition of Sil-MATRIX to the Certis USAPQ Corporation product line marks the sixth product the company has introduced in the last six months, making its product line the fastest growing line of biopesticides in the U.S. despite the depressed economy.

The active ingredient in Sil-MATRIX is potassium silicate. It is a highly effective preventive measure for fungal diseases, such as powdery mildew, botrytis and rust, and suppression of mites, aphids and whiteflies. Sil-MATRIX can be used under high temperatures without fear of burning plants. It has virtually no odor, no precautions against using it with oil sprays, no dust emissions, and it is cost competitive with sprayable sulfur applications. Sil-MATRIX is registered for use on grapes, fruit and nut trees, vegetables and berries.

Certis USA Named Neudorff's Primary U.S. Distributor

Under a new distribution agreement, Germany-based Neudorff assigns distribution rights to the biopesticide company Certis USA to market its OMRI-listed, NOP-approved products DES-X™ insecticidal soap Neudorffconcentrate, Cueva™ liquid copper fungicide concentrate, Seduce® insecticidal bait and Sluggo® slug and snail bait. (Certis USA will distribute Sluggo to Eastern markets only.) The distribution agreement allows Neudorff to introduce its full line of products into the U.S. specialty agriculture and ornamental industry. For Certis USA, the additional bioproducts give it the most extensive biopesticide product line in the country.

“Quite simply, we saw this as a natural fit. Certis USA has extensive history developing its own biopesticides, in market development, and stewarding bioproducts in the field through its expert staff,” said Cameron Wilson, V.P of Neudorff’s North American Operations.

Tim Damico, Executive V.P. NAFTA for Certis USA, said the distributor agreement with Neudorff satisfies two important objectives for his company. “First, Neudorff is giving us access to high quality products that satisfy real problems in the field. Second, the addition of these products into our product line reinforces the Certis USA position as the biopesticide company for broad product choice and support,” Damico said.

Market potential for biopesticides is stronger now then in any other time in history, Damico said. “The lines between organic and conventional farming are blurring just as are the distinctions between organic and conventional pesticides. With the removal of some pesticides from the market or the reregulation of others, novel active ingredients that address specific grower needs are greatly needed.”

Methyl Bromide Phase Out Deepens Nematode Concerns

At trade shows and farm shows, grower meetings and local eateries, growers are voicing concerns about the phase out of methyl bromide. Its impending loss, according to the University of Florida, “is the single most important challenge facing the vegetable and small fruits industries today.” Certainly control of nematodes, especially sting nematodes in strawberries, will become more difficult. But with the introduction of MeloCon® WG, grower discussions have turned positive as grower and university trials show great promise for the biological nematicide.
