Many Certis USA products are approved for use or are listed for use in organic production.
According to the USDA, the National Organic Program (NOP) is a marketing program housed within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service, the agency that sets marketing standards. The NOP mission is to develop and implement national standards that govern the marketing of agricultural products as organically produced, to facilitate commerce in fresh and processed food that is organically produced, and to assure consumers that such products meet consistent standards.
The Organic Foods Production Act of 1990 requires the Secretary of Agriculture to establish a National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances which identifies synthetic substances that may be used, and the non-synthetic substances that cannot be used, in organic production and handling operations.
The following Certis USA products are NOP certified:
The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) reviews generic and brand name products used in the organic production of food and fiber. As publisher of the OMRI Generic Materials List and the OMRI Brand Name Product List, OMRI provides guidance on the suitability of material inputs in U.S. organic production.
Certain Certis USA products are determined by OMRI to be suitable for use in certified organic production. The products are either “A” (Allowed) or “R” (Restricted). Restricted products have restrictions or limitations imposed on their use.
